I’ve got the original Nomad[e] and never tried out the wallpaper widget. However, if I try to upload any image, input shows “uploading wallpaper on your nomad” for a while (1min?), then the keyboard restarts, the input software looses connection and resets back to the keymap page, without ever setting the wallpaper.
